Health Insurance and Mental or Behavioral Health Benefits
With the Affordable Health Act or ACA, also known as Obamacare, your mental health benefits should be fully accessible and treated the same as any other medical/surgical benefit to which you are entitled. It's always a good idea to verify your mental health benefits so that you are clear about the limits and scope of your benefits. If I am not a network provider for your insurance, you may have out-of-network coverage. Just contact your insurance company, make a request to verify your mental health or behavioral health services, and ask about coverage for both in-network and out-of-network provider. Services may be covered in full or in part by your health insurance or employee benefit plan. Insurance products vary widely, even within the same company. Please check your coverage carefully by asking the following questions:
- What are my mental health insurance benefits?
- What is my deductible and has it been met?
- How many sessions per year does my health insurance cover?
- What is my co-payment or co-insurance per therapy session?
- Is a referral required from my primary care physician?

I am a preferred provider for Regence BCBS insurance programs and these include Uniform Medical Plan, Federal BCBS, Anthem BCBS, BCBS of Michigan and a number of other programs, both local and national. Please check with your insurer and with me directly to verify as the network directories are not always accurate.
Additional plans for which I am a preferred provider include TriCare and Aetna. If your insurance company is not listed above, please verify directly with Dr. Sierra as she may have added an insurance plan or is in process. Otherwise, please verify your out-of-network (OON) benefits with your insurer; some OON plans are quite generous.
Private pay clients will be proviided a regular statement or "superbill" which you can either retain for your records, to submit to your insurance company or for reimbursement via a health or flexible savings account.
Payment and/or balances not paid for by your insurer are due at each session. Cash, check, credit (Visa, MC, Discover & AMEX) and debit cards are accepted at the time of service for the uncovered balance in the event that your plan does not cover services or only partial payment is submitted.
Please contact Dr. Sierra regarding her fee schedule.
There is a 48-hour cancellation policy. If you miss your appointment without proper notice via telephone to Dr. Sierra at 253-686-5184 you will be charged for the missed session.
